Not five years later, a small but highly anticipated and discussed change has rolled into Java 18: all standard APIs now use UTF-8 encoding by default. This is a change that will make the expression "Write once, run anywhere" really true, as the behavior of the application will now be even less dependent on the system. The talk describes how the work on JEP-400 evolved and how to make sure that you don't have anything broken after upgrading to the new Java.
